Fire crews race to blaze near railway line between Yoker and Garscadden

Emergency services are tackling a blaze near the railway line between Yoker and Garscadden, in the west of Glasgow.

Scotrail confirmed the incident shortly after 2.30pm, while Network Rail have advised of multiple signal failures on the lines as a result of the smoke.

Trains have been suspended and cancelled as a result.

Scotrail announced: "We have had reports of a fire near the railway between Yoker and Garscadden.

"Emergency services are on site and we will update you as soon as we get more information.

"Due to this fire we have had multiple signal failures on both Yoker and Singer lines. Staff are on site fault fixing."

The following services have been disrupted:

  • Edinburgh-Helesnburgh - Terminate and start back at Hyndland
  • Airdrie-Balloch - Terminate and start back at Hyndland
  • Motherwell-Dalmuir - Terminate and start back at Garscadden
  • Whifflet-Dalmuir - Terminate and start back at Anderston
  • Springburn-Dumbarton - Withdrawn.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 4.45pm on Tuesday, May 5 to reports of a small fire in the open on Greenlaw Road in Yoker, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance to the area and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
