Fire crews race to Ayr street as blaze rips through garage sending huge plumes of smoke into sky

Brave fire crews are currently battling a large blaze in Ayr.

Local reports suggest the fire started in a garage on Westwood Avenue at around 5pm on Friday, May 29.

Huge plumes of thick, black smoke could be seen filling the air right across the Ayrshire town.

Officers from Police Scotland confirmed they are also in attendance and have locked down the road in the Dalmilling area.

Emergency services remain at the scene on Westwood Avenue, Ayr (Police Scotland)

Thankfully no injuries have been reported and fire crews currently have the blaze under control.

A South Ayrshire police statement read: "Scottish Fire and Rescue and Police Scotland are dealing with a fire in Westwood Ave, Ayr. The road is closed meantime. 

"Fire is under control and there are no injuries."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted 4.44pm on Friday, May 29 to reports of a fire involving an external garage building at a property on Westwood Avenue, Ayr.

"Three appliances were mobilised to the scene, where crews extinguished the fire.

"There are no reported casualties. Crews remain on scene."
