Residents evacuated as brave firefighters battled large blaze in Glasgow flat

A number of residents were evacuated after a large fire broke out at a block of flats in Toryglen.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Ardnahoe Avenue in the southside of the city shortly before5pm on Tuesday.

Shocking video footage shows black plumes of smoke billowing from the windows of the property, which is understood to be a flat.

One local resident said the block of flats was the home of several young families.

Thankfully nobody was injured during the terrifying blaze but a number of residents were evacuated as a precaution.

Firefighters managed to get the flames under control after sending three appliances to the scene.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police were called at around 4.50pm to a fire at Ardnahoe Avenue in Toryglen.

"Nobody was injured but residents have been evacuated as a precaution. The fire has now been extinguished."
