Fire crews deal with 'ongoing incident' at Ayr Hospital after main boiler fails

Fire crews are on the scene at Ayr Hospital this lunchtime after the site's main boiler failed.

The heating and water supply to the hospital was affected for a short time, bosses at NHS Ayrshire & Arran confirmed.

The incident has led to an impact on both outpatient and surgery activity.

A spokesperson said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran is dealing with an ongoing incident at University Hospital Ayr, concerning the failure of the main boiler.

"This has caused a water ingress, which has had an impact on patient lifts.

"We welcome the support of Scottish Fire and Rescue Services to resolve the issue.

"Heating and water supply had been affected for a very short while.

"However, this has now been restored.

"Unfortunately, the incident has had an impact on patient activity in outpatients and surgery, and we apologise to the small number of patients who have been affected."

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed that two appliances and a specialist vehicle are in attendance.
