Fire crews called to blaze in Whitchurch

Avon Fire and Rescue service were called to a commercial property in Whitchurch this afternoon after a fire broke out.

Crews from Avonmouth, Hicks Gate and Temple attended the scene on Staunton Lane just after 1pm.

The cause of the fire is said to be “accidental.”

No information has been provided as to whether anyone was in the property at the time, or has been injured.

In a tweet Avon Fire and Rescue said: “We [had] four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, using two high pressure hose reels and one jet, working to extinguish the fire.

“The fire has now been extinguished and crews are monitoring the affected area with thermal imaging cameras. The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.”

Fire crews were also called to attend a fire at St. Michael’s Hospital near the University of Bristol today (21 January) where some patients had to be evacuated.

They were also deployed to a fire at a house in Bedminster this morning, where nobody is said to have been hurt.

On Tuesday (19 January) some flats had to be evacuated as a shop in Knowle West caught fire which saw the inside ‘completely gutted.’
