Fire crews called to blaze at four properties in Tonypandy town centre

Fire crews have been dealing with a "large fire" which has broke out in the centre of Tonypandy, spreading to multiple properties.

Police and fire have said that the fire is now out but that it spread four properties and roads around the area are expected to be closed for a "significant" time.

Firefighters from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the blaze in Dunraven Street on Thursday night. The fire has spread quickly and sent smoke over much of the town centre.

At 10pm on Thursday evening, six crews were working to extinguish the fire.

A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the fire involved four derelict commercial properties on the street.

South Wales Police said: "We are at scene of a large fire in Dunraven St, Tonpandy.The fire is out, but roads will be closed for a significant time. Please avoid the area."

Representatives from utility companies were also at the scene on Thursday evening to assist the fire crews and the police.
