Fire crews called to blaze at Capita building in Leeds city centre

Fire crews tackled a in Leeds city centre.

Clay Pit Lane was closed in both directions for several hours after a fire broke out at the Capita Building in Providence Place.

Seven fire engines and one aerial appliance attended the scene - follow live updates from the scene .

Police were also called to Providence Place and dozens of people appear to have been evacuated from the building.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident just before 11am on Monday morning and the road was closed shortly afterwards.

A spokeswoman said the fire was believed to have started in the roof area. She said there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Damping down began at around 2.30pm and Clay Pit Lane reopened just after 3.30pm.

Pictures showed firefighters using a aerial apparatus to access an upper window and crews working on the roof.

A Capita spokeswoman said: "The building has been safely evacuated and we are liaising with the fire service."
