Fire crews build dam to stop a burst lake from flooding village roads

Fire crews prevented further flooding in a village by building a dam after a lake burst its banks.

Nottinghamshire was lashed with torrential rain on Wednesday, November 7 and the emergency services were tasked with preventing water from a lake reaching roads in the village of Harworth in north Nottinghamshire.

Pictures show firefighters shovelling dirt and bricks to create the dam as the water levels continued to rise.

Harworth fire station tweeted: "Keep safe in this wet weather and be extra vigilant on the roads.

"Crews were tasked with creating a damn to stop a burst lake from continuing to flood a local road and then to assist a stranded driver today."

Nottinghamshire was also hit by further incidents caused by the weather after a landslide led to the evacuation of 35 homes in Mansfield.
