Fire crews battle to control 'wildfire' blaze on hills near Glasgow

A suspected wildfire has taken hold in hills near Glasgow with large plumes of smoke visible from miles around.

Pictures taken near the scene of the suspected blaze show clouds of black smoke coming off the Kilpatrick Hills.

Fire crews were called to the scene at around 6.45pm this evening.

The scale of the blaze is not yet known, however there are reportedly three appliances in attendance.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 6:45 on Monday April 20 to reports of a large fire near Cochno Road in Clydebank.

"Three appliances are currently in attendance."

There have been no reports of any casualties.

The plumes of smoke blowing off the hillside appear to have reached as far Clydebank and Milngavie, according to pictures and videos shared online.
