Fire crews battle massive blaze in Glasgow's Duke Street through the night

Fire crews have worked through the night to battle a blaze in a derelict building in Glasgow’s East End.

Around 30 firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to tackle the fire on Duke Street.

The alarm was raised at 8.40pm on Thursday about the incident and six appliances were sent to the scene.

At 6.30am this morning there were still crews at the site fighting the flames.

Videos showed thick clouds of black smoke billowing out from the building.

The alarm was raised at 8.40pm on Thursday about the incident in Duke Street, Glasgow.

Six appliances were sent to the scene to tackle the fire.

Firefighters broke into the building which was engulfed by the inferno.

There were still six appliances dealing with the incident at 6.30am on Friday morning.

There have been no reports of any injuries.

Locals in the area reported hearing a loud bang before seeing thick clouds of smoke coming from the scene.

Police cordoned off the area and one eyewitness told the Record: "There was this massive explosion.

“Nobody knows what it is, but it was really loud and we even felt it in our flats before going out to have a look. Our dogs started barking straight away, along with many others in our street.”

“A Scottish Fire and Rescue Spokesperson said: "In the vicinity of Duke Street in Glasgow we're attending a derelict building on fire.

"We got quite a lot of repeat calls in around 8.40pm."
