Fire crews battle Blantyre shop fire as smoke billows from building

Firefighters are battling blaze in a Lanarkshire town today after a shop burst into flames.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were called to Main Street in Blantyre just before 10am after reports of a fire within a shop.

Eight appliances were sent to the scene as smoke was seen billowing from the building on the busy road.

It is not known at this stage if anyone was injured in the blaze.

A spokeswoman for the SFRS said: "We were called at 9.58am this morning from a member of the public about a fire in a building on Main Street in Blantyre.

"Eight appliances were sent to the scene where they remain."
