Fire crews attend scene of blaze near Kilroot Business Park in Co Antrim

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a blaze in Carrickfergus tonight.

Fire crews scrambled to the incident near Kilroot Business Park in the Co Antrim town on Monday evening.

Pictures online appeared to show the old Police Federation Building in the area on fire.

Large plumes of smoke can be seen coming from the area as far as Farmhill BayBeach in Holywood.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service told Belfast Live that six fire appliances had been sent to the scene.

It is understood that involves four fire pumps and two specialist teams, with 34 personnel in attendance in total.

DUP councillor for the local area, Cheryl Johnston, told Belfast Live: "The building which was once a factory before the old Police Federation Building has been derelict for as long as I can remember.

"It is near a large area of green and beside the Kilroot Business Park in Carrickfergus."

Johnston added: "It seems to be pretty bad at the moment with large plumes of black smoke coming from that area.

"Thankfully no one has been injured and the fire service are dealing with the incident as quickly as they can."
