Fire contained at Worlds End in SA

A fire that was burning out of control at Worlds End in South Australia's Mid-North has been contained, after strong winds lashed South Australia.

The CFS issued a Bushfire Emergency Warning for those in the region as the fire burned through stubble.

It said the fire was burning in a south-easterly and easterly direction near Burra and Worlds End Gorge Road, Worlds End Highway, Bundey Church Road and Eagle Hawk Gate and Powerline roads.

Worlds End is a sparsely populated locality about 18 kilometres south-east of Burra near the Burra Creek Gorge Reserve — a popular camping area.

There were reportedly more than 180 firefighters from 28 units tackling the blaze as well as an aerial waterbombing unit.

Much of South Australia was issued with a severe weather warning by the Bureau of Meteorology, due to strong winds associated with a cold front which swept across the state.
