Fire brigade warning after 'dry' ivy causes house fire

Dublin Fire Brigade has issued a warning to householders after ivy on a house in the centre of the city caught fire, causing damage to the exterior of the property.

The house suffered smoke damage to the walls and the destruction of part of the guttering, and the brigade warned householders of the potential dangers of "dry vegetation" covering walls and other structures.

In a tweet, the brigade said: "Firefighters from Tara Street fire station were called to ivy alight on a house today.

"Dry vegetation is not just a problem on our hills and fields."
