Fire brigade battle huge Dublin blaze as warning issued to locals

Dublin Fire Brigade are currently battling a huge blaze in the west of the capital.

The shocking fire broke out at an industrial estate in the Ballyfermot area, with eight units currently at the scene.

Locals are being urged to keep their windows closed as massive plumes of smoke hurtle through the air.

The fire is understood to be at Thornton's recycling centre in the Parkwest Business Park, Dublin Live reports.

Firefighters tweeted: "8 units are currently attending a large fire in an industrial premises in Kylemore, Ballyfermot.

"As a precaution close all windows if you're affected by the smoke plume."

Councillor Daithi Doolan added: "Dublin Fire Brigade have reported there are eight units of the fire brigade tackling a major fire at Thortons Recycling plant on Ballyfermot's Killlen Road.

"This could be very serious for local residents.

"Dublin Fire Brigade are urging people in Ballyfermot, Inchicore and Drimnagh to keep their windows closed.

"I am concerned that toxic waste could be in the smoke and could be a threat to people's health and safety.

"I sincerely hope no one is injured or worse."
