Fire breaks out on ninth floor in block of Bootle flats

Fire crews rushed to the scene of a blaze in a Bootle flat this morning.

A fire broke out in a property on the ninth floor of the Strand House flats, on Washington Parade. Four fire engines and an aerial appliance attended the scene at around 2.27am on Wednesday, February 1.

Two people were inside the flat but managed to make it out without the help of firefighters. They were given oxygen therapy and treated for smoke inhalation by North West Ambulance Service but were not taken to hospital.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has determined it started accidentally. A spokesperson for Merseyside fire and rescue service said: "Fire crews have been called to a fire on the 9th floor of Strand House on Washington Parade, Bootle in the early hours of this morning, 1st March 2023.

"Fire crews were alerted at 2.21am and on scene at 2.27am. Four fire engines and an aerial appliance are in attendance. Crews arrived to find a fire in a flat on the 9th floor of the building. Firefighters entered the flat under rapid deployment wearing breathing apparatus and quickly extinguished a fire. The fire was extinguished by 2.48am.

"Two people had left the flat before the arrival of fire crews and were treated at the scene by firefighters with oxygen therapy for smoke inhalation before the arrival of North West Ambulance Service who provided further treatment. There are not thought to be any other casualties."
