Fire breaks out on Arthur's Seat as emergency services race to the scene

Firefighters raced to Arthur's Seat last night after a fire broke out on the landmark hill.

At around 10pm locals began sharing images on social media after spotting the flames and smoke.

It is believed that the fire started after an area of grassland and gorse bushes caught on fire.

According to reports, a 50m x 50m of grassland and gorse bushes caught on fire however the cause of the incident is not yet known.

The news comes as a huge fire also broke out in a park in Saughton at around 7pm last night.

Pictures and videos emerge of thick black smoke billowing from a sports complex which has now been confirmed to being treated as arson.

A young man was also seen being 'dragged' away from the smoke with injuries.

Police Scotland told Edinburgh live: "Police enquiries are continuing into a fire in Saughton Park, Edinburgh on the evening of Monday 1 June, where a shelter and sporting equipment were set alight.

"The fire is being treated as wilful. The fire has been extinguished and no one was injured. Officers are currently following a number of lines of enquiry."
