Fire breaks out in train in Bihar, all passengers safe; major mishap averted

MOTIHARI: A DMU train's electric engine caught fire near Bhelwa station on Raxaul-Narkatiyaganj section of East Central Railway in Bihar on Sunday morning.

The fire incident was reported at around 5.50am when the train was going to Narkatiyaganj station from Raxaul.

Timely action and firefighting operation averted a major mishap and no passengers were injured in the incident.

MK Rai, assistant commandant of RPF, Raxaul said that the train left Raxaul at 5.30am for Narkatiyaganj. But before reaching Bhelwa station, the engine which was at the end of the train caught fire. The driver of the train was informed by the passengers.

He stopped the train and informed Raxaul station and the fire tender officials. The fire tender and the RPF reached the spot and doused the flames. The fire from the engine did not spread due to timely action, he said.

According to railway sources, the train services were disrupted for an hour.

The DMU train, after this incident reached Narkatiyaganj, according to officials.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
