Fire breaks out in Scots flats as cops probe blaze

Police are probing a fire at a flat on a Scots street in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services raced to Thomson Place in Rosyth, near Dunfermline, after the alarm was raised at around 1am on Tuesday, August 31.

Fire crews quickly sent three appliances to the scene to tackle the blaze, which was affecting a common stairwell of a block of four flats.

Pictures from the scene show fighters dousing the flames while huge plumes of smoke can be seen pummelling into the sky.

One casualty was passed over to the Scottish Ambulance Service, but thankfully police confirmed no one was badly injured by the blaze.

Officers say there were several people in the area at the time of the fire and they are appealing for information.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.15am on Tuesday, 31 August, 2021, police were made aware of a fire at a flat in Thomson Place, Dunfermline. Emergency services attended and no-one was injured in the incident.

"The cause of fire is yet to be determined, however, enquiries carried out by officers so far have established there were several people in the area around the time of the incident.

"Officers are appealing for these people to contact them as they may have information which could assist in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0139 of August 31.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.06am on Tuesday, August 31 to reports of a fire at a property at Thomson Place, Rosyth.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a common stairwell of a block of four flats.

“One casualty was handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been approached for a comment.
