Fire breaks out in cottage with thatched roof - sparking large emergency services response

A large emergency services response was sparked after a fire broke out in a cottage with a thatched roof in Stockport.

Multiple fire crews from Manchester and Cheshire were scrambled to the blaze on Bramhall Lane South at around 8.15pm last night (Tuesday).

The Hazardous Area Response Team from the North West Ambulance Service also attended the scene, as well police officers.

The fire broke out in a cottage with a thatched roof, a spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.

Crews battled the blaze into the early hours and remain at the scene this afternoon.

Firefighters are still dampening down remaining 'hotspots'.

Pictures taken last night on Bramhall Lane South showed smoke billowing from the thatched roof of the property as firefighters worked to put it out.

This morning, pictures show the roof completely destroyed in the areas hit by the fire.

Police remained at the scene earlier today.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service confirmed that nobody was injured.

In a statement, a GMFRS spokesperson said: "At approximately 8.15pm on Tuesday, March 8, multiple fire appliances from both Manchester and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Services attended a fire involving a domestic property on Bramhall Lane South, in Stockport.

"The fire involves a cottage with a thatched roof.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and a covering jet to extinguish the fire.

"Crews also used a thermal imaging camera, lighting, and other specialist equipment.

"Firefighters are dampening down remaining hot spots and remain in attendance at this time."
