Fire statement as blaze breaks out near A52 in West Bridgford

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue have released a statement after a fire which has broken out near a cemetery just off the A52. Huge plumes of smoke can be seen billowing into the sky after the blaze on land close to Wilford Hill cemetery on Loughborough Road in West Bridgford on Friday (August 12) afternoon.

It can be seen from Mapperley and is currently being dealt with by fire crews at the scene. A spokesperson from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 12.36pm and sent Stockhill fire station and two pumps from London Road. The address is Wilford Hill cemetery on Loughborough Road in West Bridgford. There is approximately 1.5 hectares of standing crop grass and undergrowth and trees [affected by the incident]."

Nottingham City Council has clarified the fire has broken out in fields nearby and that no part of the cemetery is affected.

From pictures and videos taken near the scene, it appears to be a field is on fire near the site. Nottinghamshire Live understand the incident is being ramped down and is under control from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, who are due to be leaving the scene shortly.
