Fire breaks out at top floor flat with Glasgow residents evacuated

A top floor flat in Glasgow has gone up in flames forcing residents to be evacuated.

Mercy crews scrambled to tackle flames at Helenvale Street in Parkhead at around 1.01pm this afternoon.

One man is currently being treated by medics for smoke inhalation as a result.

The blaze broke out at the top of the block of flats with thick black smoke billowing from the scene.

Shocking pictures showed the horror scene before fire crews put out the flames a short time later.

Police have now launched a probe into the incident.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 1.05 pm on Sunday, 31 October, 2021 police and fire service attended a report of fire within a top floor flat in Helenvale Street, Glasgow.

“A number of people have been evacuated from the flats and the fire has now been extinguished by SFRS.

“One man is currently being treated by SAS for smoke inhalation.

“Enquiries will be carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue teams have been contacted for comment.
