Fire breaks out at disused former park lodge linked to Tredegar Park in Newport

Fire fighters attended a fire at an abandoned property linked to Tredegar Park.

Officers were called to Deer Park House this afternoon, after reports cylinders were being stored near the property.

A tall plume of black smoke could be seen spiraling into the air following the incident at about 2.45pm.

Fire crews from Cwmbran, Duffryn and Malpas attended the incident.

A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said fire fighters cooled the cylinders as a precaution. The incident had concluded by 3.45pm.

The detached property is said to be linked to Lord Tredegar's former south Wales estate on the edge of Newport.

Located to the south of Bassaleg and north of the impressive Tredegar House estate, the abandoned property is thought to have links to the main house and its sprawling estate grounds.

In July, it was reported Old Deer House with its 1.12 acres of land which comes with the property, was on the market.

It was due to go to auction with a guide price of £400,000.
