Fire breaks out at Crosby beach in second incident in 12 days

A fire broke out on the sand dunes in Crosby this afternoon marking the second incident in 12 days.

Members of the public alerted the emergency services of the fire near marine lake after flames were spotted on the dunes.

Fire crews attended the scene to put out the blaze at around 6.36pm.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We attended a fire at marine lake, in Crosby.

"Approximately 20 square metres of grass were on fire on the sand dunes."

Earlier this month, three youths were spoken to after sand dunes were deliberately set on fire at Crosby beach.

Crews were called to Mariners Road in the Sefton town just before 7pm on Sunday, March 7, following reports of a large fire on the coast.

When they arrived, the sand and grassy area was well alight and firefighters spent the next 30 minutes extinguishing the blaze.
