Fire breaks out at city centre third storey flat

Fire crews battled a blaze at a block of flats in the city centre this morning leaving one person needing medical treatment.

The fire broke out at a third floor flat in Oldham Street, close to Renshaw Street, sometime around 9am on Tuesday.

Firefighters from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service used ladders to access enter the site of the fire after arriving at the block of flats.

North West Ambulance Service said they had treated one person at the scene but did not take them to hospital.

Nobody is thought to have suffered serious injuries in the fire which the ECHO understands was not on the St Lukes View property.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews were alerted at 9.06am and on the scene at 9.10am. Four fire engines are currently in attendance as well as a combined platform ladder.

"On arrival crews found a fire in a flat on the third floor of the building.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the building. Crews have set up a bridge head and are feeding a hose reel jet from the dry riser.

"Fire fighters remain at the scene and firefighting operations have concluded.

"One person has been assessed at the scene by paramedics from North West Ambulance Service."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 9.25 am to Oldham Street in Liverpool City Centre.

"One ambulance crew attended the scene."
