Fire breaks out at Call Lane nightclub

A fire broke out at a busy nightclub in Leeds city centre on Friday night.

Fire crews were called to The Backroom Leeds in Call Lane after an extractor fan on the roof went up in flames, shortly after 10pm on June 14.

The firefighters cut away a section of the roof to get to the fire and extinguished it using two hose reels.

People were evacuated from the club after the fire broke out, but it reopened at midnight.

A spokesman for the club said: "A small extractor fan caught fire on the roof which was extinguished by the fire brigade.

"No fire inside the premises and we resumed trading at midnight Friday, plus we are open as usual this weekend."
