Fire breaks out at busy fish and chip shop as customers were 'queuing down the street'

Firefighters were called after a blaze started at a busy fish and chip shop.

The Village Chippy, in Bolton Road North, Stubbins, Ramsbottom, had been popular on Friday, with a string of socially distanced customers "queuing down the street", according to one resident.

But, at around 7pm in the evening four fire engines were called and smoke was seen coming from the upstairs windows of the building.

A crew of firefighters from Ramsbottom Fire Station were the first to arrive and managed to quickly bring the flames under control. Nobody was injured.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were there for just over an hour.

"Fortunately, nobody was hurt. We were able to bring the fire under control pretty quickly."

The Ramsbottom team was helped by three fire engines sent by Lancashire Fire Service.
