A massive fire has completely destroyed the main stage at Belgium’s Tomorrowland festival, casting doubt on whether the event can go ahead.
Festival sources say the cause of the fire, which broke out on Wednesday evening, is still unclear.
"We can confirm that no one was injured during the incident," the festival said in a statement on its website.
Videos posted to social media showed flames engulfing the elaborate set, with the local newspaper GVA reporting before 8pm that the fire appeared to be under control.
Local media outlets reported that some emergency services were already on the festival site in Boom in the province of Antwerp.
Residents living close to the festival area had been advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
No festival-goers were in attendance, although several employees were believed to be on-site for set up ahead of Friday’s planned opening.
Organisers say posts on social media from festival-goers claiming to have received emails saying Tomorrowland had been cancelled were "Fake news" but haven't yet confirmed whether or not the event will go ahead.
"We are focused on finding solutions for the festival weekend. More updates and detailed information will be communicated as soon as possible," Tomorrowland said.
The first edition of Tomorrowland took place in 2005 and last year’s event attracted 400,000 people.
