Fire breaks out at bakery in Oldham - police are involved in the investigation into the cause

Fire crews tackled a blaze at a bakery in Oldham.

Five engines were called to Park Cake Bakeries, on Ashton Road, just after 5am this morning (Tuesday).

The blaze involved pallets and other materials in a storage area on the ground floor of the building.

Staff were evacuated from the building and everyone was accounted for.

Greater Manchester Police and fire crews remain at the scene investigating the cause of the blaze.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service statement read: "Just after 5am today, Tuesday, January 21, Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) was called to reports of a fire at a bakery on Ashton Road at the junction of the A6104 Hathershaw Lane in Oldham.

"Five fire engines from Blackley, Littleborough, Oldham, Hollins and Chadderton stations were quickly on the scene and firefighters soon established the blaze involved pallets and other materials in a ground floor storage area.

"Crews used five ventilation fans, six breathing apparatus and two jets and soon got on top of the flames.

"GMFRS is still in attendance on Ashton Road but we are in the process of reducing the number of fire engines at the scene to one as we look to make the incident safe and finish firefighting."
