Fire badly damages Tenby fish and chip shop popular with thousands of tourists

Firefighters have been tackling a large fire at a popular chip shop in one of Wales’ best tourist hotspots.

Emergency services were called to Park Road Fish and Chip Shop in the centre of Tenby shortly after 11am on Tuesday morning. Several fire crews arrived at the scene and the chip shop itself, located on Upper Park Road, a stone’s throw from the castle wall, is said to have been badly damaged as a result of the blaze.

Police were also in attendance and set up road closures in the area, while diversions were put in place by Pembrokeshire Council, which urged people to avoid the area. As the road was closed for some time, traffic was heavy in the centre of Tenby.

The fire was ablaze for almost an hour, being extinguished at around midday, but crews remained at the scene for a further two hours. Everyone at the chip shop was accounted for and it’s understood that nobody was injured during the incident.

Pembrokeshire County Council has closed some roads close to the incident, diverted traffic from the area and supported the emergency services. It has urged people to avoid the area.

“Crews from Narberth, Pembroke Dock and Tenby Fire Stations were mobilised to the incident.

“Upon attendance, crews dealt with a well developed fire on the ground floor of a commercial chip shop. Four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets (one using foam), one main jet and thermal imaging cameras were used to tackle the fire. The fire was extinguished at approximately 12pm. Crews remained on scene for some time to continue to dampen down before eventually leaving at approximately 2pm.”
