Fire at school in Glasgow's Cranhill as emergency crews race to scene

This is the moment flames ripped through a Glasgow primary school while firefighters battled to tackle the blaze.

Fire crews raced to the scene after an inferno broke out at Saint Maria Goretti Primary School in Cranhill this evening.

A picture shows flames which appear to have taken hold through the window on the upper floor.

Firefighters were alerted at around 4.45pm and they managed to tackle the flames before they spread throughout the whole building.

The extent of the damage is not yet known but it is believed no one was injured as a result of the blaze.

Police were called to the scene and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "At around 5.15pm on Friday, January 22, we were made aware of a fire at a premises on Skerryvore Road in Glasgow.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed firefighters were in attendance after four appliances were mobilised.

Fire crews left the scene earlier tonight.

The school was also targeted by vandals last week in a late-night break-in on Tuesday January 12, which police are currently investigating.
