BREAKING: Fire at iconic Belfry Ryder Cup golf venue

A fire has broken out at The Belfry Hotel & Resort - the only venue in the world to have hosted golf's Ryder Cup four times.

Firefighters are currently at the scene on Lichfield Road in Wishaw attempting to extinguish the blaze.

The fire is located at the hotel's leisure centre, with Warwickshire Fire and Rescue tweeting that they have dispatched four appliances.

The firefighters are equipped with breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, small gear and lighting to extinguish the fire., reports Coventry Live.

There is currently no information available about how the fire started, or whether the fire brigade believe it was accidental or intentional.

The Belfry Hotel hosted the Ryder Cup in 2002, 1993, 1989, and 1989.
