Fire at Dumbarton flats sees child rushed to hospital

A child has been taken to hospital following a blaze at a block of flats in Dumbarton.

The girl - whose age has not been confirmed - was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Children.

The blaze broke out at 10.40am at Ashton View, Dumbarton, with fire fighters, police and ambulances called to the scene.

Residents were evacuated but police have confirmed three people suffered smoke inhalation - with a man and woman taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

A fourth person was given medical attention at the scene but not taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Officers attended and a number of nearby houses were evacuated as a precaution.

"The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire safely and a man, a woman and a female youth have been taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

"Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the fire are ongoing."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 10.48am today to attend an incident in Dumbarton.

“We dispatched four ambulances and our special operations team to the scene. We transported two patients to Royal Alexandra Hospital and a third patient to Glasgow Children’s Hospital. A fourth patient was treated at the scene but did not travel to hospital.”

Police vehicles, ambulances and fire appliances were all in attendance at the height of the blaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.42am on Friday, March 5 to reports of a property on fire at Ashton View, Dumbarton.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to a fire on the second floor of a four-storey building.”
