Fire at derelict building being treated as deliberate by cops

A fire at a derelict building in Inverness is being treated as suspicious by police.

Fire crews were called to a blaze at Chapelton Farm Cottage, Balloch, after it went up in flames at 5.20pm on Tuesday July 7.

A video of the inferno showing thick plumes of white smoke billowing out of the property was shared on Twitter by a local councillor.

No one was inside of the building during the blaze.

Now cops are asking anyone in the area the night before who may have any information about the fire to come forward.

A Police Scotland statement said: "At this time police are treating the incident as wilful and would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity from around 6 pm on Monday, 6 July, 2020 and may have seen anyone hanging around the area acting suspiciously.

"Anyone with information should contact police at Inverness via telephone number 101 quoting incident number 2549 of 7 July 2020."
