Fire engines and police cars have responded to a ‘massive incident’ on the Royal Mile and North Bridge, according to eyewitness reports.

Police have confirmed to Edinburgh Live that they were called to reports of concern for a person at 6.20pm.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the North Bridge area as police deal with the incident there.

Emergency services are currently in attendance and both North Bridge and Market Street are currently closed.

Meanwhile one eyewitness said on Twitter: “Seems to be a massive incident happening on North Bridge/Royal Mile. Lots of fire engines and police.”

Twitter user Andy C shared pictures of police cars and officers closing off roads and controlling traffic in the area.

He confirmed to Edinburgh Live that he had seen as many as ten emergency vehicles responding to the incident.

“Not a clue what it was, seemed like three or four fire engines up by the Scotsman Hotel and maybe five or six police cars”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Edinburgh Live: "Police were called around 6.20pm on Monday, 13 July, 2020 following the report of a concern for person at a hotel on North Bridge, Edinburgh.

"Emergency services are currently in attendance and both North Bridge and Market Street are currently closed."
