The efforts of firefighters working tirelessly to protect homes from bushfires burning across swathes of New South Wales and Queensland have not gone without plenty of appreciation from fire-affected communities.
Residents have offered free food, beer and thank you notes as a token of their appreciation for the hard-working emergency services.
A note left by one family on the north coast of New South Wales told firefighters where vital water and fuel could be found, and where they could get food and drink.
"The house is the most important. If we lose the rest, doesn't matter," the note read.
"You guys rock our world. Be safe."
Jason Watkins, manager of Yeppoon's Strand Hotel, offered firefighters a free "cold one" in appreciation of their efforts to control blazes in central Queensland.
"The fire crews, the police, the ambulance … everyone has just been working tirelessly for the last 72 hours and we cannot thank them enough," Mr Watkins said.
Crews arriving from Tasmania to offer relief to fatigued Queensland firefighters were welcomed by a large 'thank you' note written into the ground in a paddock.
Ballina Public School students also offered their gratitude to the 'amazing' firefighters, drawing pictures and writing notes.
