FIR registered against 4 for killing stray dog

People For Animals (PFA), Mysuru has lodged a complaint with Lakshmipuram police of dog abuse based on a video shared through social media.

Though the video is 6 months old, no complaint was registered against the four accused who clubbed a dog to death on D.Subbaiah Road in the city.

The video shows three persons repeatedly hitting the street dog while a fourth person armed with a stick is also seen at the fag end of the 28-second video. The dog which limps and tries to scurry from the place is seen receiving heavy blows even as it howls continuously in a bid to escape. But the impact of the blow leaves it reeling and another blow on its head lays it low but the culprits continue to pound the dog. A person in the background is heard saying ‘‘leave it’’.

The video has left the animal lovers shocked and PFA Mysuru, reached out to the administrators of the page and the organisation was able to connect with a bystander who witnessed the incident.

A PFA team also visited the spot and collected further information from the people in the vicinity and approached the Lakshmipuram police station and Inspector Mohith received their complaints. An FIR was filed under section 34 and 429 of IPC and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

A PFA release said animals are battered, bruised and abused while their perpetuators get away with a minuscule penalty of ₹50 and called for an amendment to the PCA Act for stronger animal protection laws, especially in the light of increase in animal abuse.
