FIR against eight Nashik jail officials

NASHIK: The Nashik Road police have lodged an FIR against eight officials and employees of the Nashik Road Central Prison for offences punishable under attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt.

The police took the action based on an order from the Nashik district and sessions court. A statement issued by the police said the case was based on a complaint by the wife of Vencil Miranda, a convict serving life imprisonment. Miranda's wife had moved the court alleging that eight jail officials and guards at the Nashik Road Central Prison had beaten up her husband in December, 2016, while he was lodged there.

The FIR was registered on Friday. According to the Nashik Road police, they had received the first order in July 2017 to investigate the case. Considering the accused were government employees and officers, the investigating officer sent the documents of the case to an assistant public prosecutor and the then-city police commissioner for their perusal and opinion.
