Fiorentina are pushing for Arsenal to cancel Lucas Torreira's loan at Atletico Madrid this month so the midfielder can move to Tuscany.
Torreira is midway through a season-long loan in Spain, but with just four starts to his name the Serie A side hope they can tempt him to Italy with the offer of regular football.
The ball is firmly in Arsenal's court on whether Torreira is called back from the Wanda Metropolitano, but according to reports in Italy, Fiorentina are confident of sealing a deal for the 24-year-old.
La Viola boss Cesare Prandelli has instructed the club to make contact with Arsenal to urge them to bring the Uruguay international back from Spain after a stuttering spell under Diego Simeone, according to Italian newspaper La Nazione (via Mundo Deportivo).
Torreira has just 419 minutes to his name and only two league starts since leaving the Emirates Stadium on loan on deadline day in October, and a move to Italy is sure to be appealing after enjoying success with Pescara and Sampdoria early in his career.
The combative midfielder was brought in to replace Thomas Partey, who went in the opposite direction and joined Arsenal on the same day, but Torreira has found himself behind the likes of Koke and Hector Herrera in the pecking order.
Arsenal signed Torreira from Sampdoria for a fee in the region of £26million in 2018, and he made 89 appearances for the Gunners, but Mikel Arteta was content to see him leave on loan with Partey's arrival and Mohamed Elneny's stock rising after a spell on loan at Besiktas.
The midfielder is under contract at the Emirates until 2023, but Atletico are believed to have an option to buy this summer as part of their loan agreement. However, with Torreira rarely featuring of late, the chances of Simeone taking Arsenal up on that option are slim at the moment.
