Fiorentina 'concede' Man Utd transfer is 'inevitable' as Nikola Milenkovic nears exit

Fiorentina are believed to be resigned to losing centre-back Nikola Milenkovic this summer, with Manchester United set to swoop for the 23-year-old.

Milenkovic is a man in demand following his impressive performances in Serie A over the past few seasons, and he has been linked with a whole host of elite clubs over the last few months.

United's interest is believed to be strongest, however, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer known to be desperate to add another high quality defender to his squad.

With Milenkovic's contract set to expire next year, this summer will be Fiorentina's only opportunity to recoup a relatively large transfer fee for their prize asset.

And according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport the club are willing to let the Serb go, and they claim that the wheels are in motion for United to make their move.

It was initially thought Liverpool could rival United for Milenkovic's signature.

But with the Reds having seemingly turned their attentions towards RB Leipzig's Ibrahima Konate, the path appears to be clear for their old enemy.

It is not clear exactly how much Fiorentina will demand for Milenkovic, but given his contract situation he could be available on a cut-price deal.

Milenkovic has been described as 'the new Nemanja Vidic' in some quarters, and his versatility allows him to fill in at right-back as well as in the centre of defence.

He has made 26 appearances in Serie A this season, and as well as shining at the back has shown he has offensive ability too with three goals and one assist.

Milenkovic recently demonstrated he has a fiery side, however, after he was shown a straight red card in Serbia's 2-2 draw with Portugal in a World Cup qualifier for a dangerous high tackle on Danilo Pereira, and he has also been sent off once for Fiorentina this season.
