Fiorentina coach reveals key Lucas Torreira quality following Arsenal loan transfer

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano has revealed what Lucas Torreira adds to his squad following his move to the Serie A outfit in the summer.

Despite having lifted the La Liga title with Diego Simeone's men last term, he remained some way down the Arsenal pecking order under Mikel Arteta and was allowed to depart north London once again.

Upon his return, the Gunners signed Albert Sambi Lokonga from Belgian outfit Anderlecht, whilst they also retained the services of Switzerland captain, Granit Xhaka, who at one point looked set to move to the Serie A himself with a move to Roma.

The loan means that Torreira will join Fiorentina until the end of the season, and the Italian outfit retain the option to buy should they wish to make a move permanent.

Torreira is familiar with the Serie A, having originally attracted Arsenal’s interest in 2018 following a successful spell at Sampdoria.

But it’s not all doom and gloom for the Uruguayan, however, as judging by what Italiano has said about his mentality, he is destined to get regular game time this season.

“We are talking about a footballer [Torreira] who played at Atletico Madrid and Arsenal, has charisma and high intelligence”, Italiano told a press conference when asked about Torreira, via insidefutbol.

“He really wants to have the ball at his feet, he always makes up for his mistakes.

“He adds to the midfield department where we have quality and dynamism.

“I am happy to have a player with this character, in terms of mentality we have to be strong. We must never give up.”

Although his time in England hasn't work out as planned, Arsenal fans will still be hoping he does well in the future.
