Fintech firm Greensill to expand Daresbury tech hub, creating more than 200 jobs

Fintech firm Greensill has announced plans to expand its technology hub, which it said will create 227 jobs in the north west.

The firm, founded by Alliance Manchester Business School alumnus and billionaire financier Lex Greensill, is a global provider of working capital finance for businesses.

The expansion of its technology hub in Daresbury, Warrington, where it currently employs 245 people, will see the firm build a modern campus designed to attract and retain talent, it said.

The firm said around half of the new roles will be highly-skilled tech jobs - including data analytics, data science, software engineering and architecture - while the remainder will be operations and central support roles.

Mr Greensill said: “We have ambitious plans for 2020 and the development and growth of Greensill’s tech hub in the north west of England is key to our success.

“As the UK’s most valuable fintech, we see this country as a global hub for technology professionals and the North West of England is a hotbed of specialist expertise.”

The firm said the announcement is part of its global expansion, which it said will create up to 441 new jobs worldwide in 2020, with 285 of them being UK-based.

The announcement comes after Greensill made a £2.5m donation to Alliance Manchester Business School last week (December 17), to help “drive the fintech agenda” in the region.

Jake Berry, minister for the Northern Powerhouse, added; “The UK is at the global forefront of technological innovation, with the north being a beacon of talent for the whole country.

“It’s fantastic to see Greensill’s investment creating so many jobs in the North West. Our key priorities are boosting innovative industries right across the country that will unleash Britain’s potential.”
