Finsbury Park mosque attack: Video shows man pinned to pavement as police arrive

Video has emerged that appears to show a man being pinned to the ground and arrested after the suspected Finsbury Park mosque terror attack.

Police arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder in the early hours of Monday morning, after a van ploughed into Muslim worshippers following prayers at the north London mosque.

Witnesses said members of the public restrained a man until police arrived.

It was also reported that the man was shielded from angry bystanders by an imam from Finsbury Park mosque.

Footage of the chaotic scene shows a white, curly-haired man being handcuffed and hauled to his feet by police officers as they try to keep people at bay.

Yells of "Get back!" can be heard, and the man himself appeared to be shouting.

Theresa May confirmed the incident was being investigated as a suspected terrorist attack and she chaired a meeting of the Government's Cobra committee.

She said: "All my thoughts are with the victims, their families and the emergency services on the scene."

A leader of the Muslim Council of Britain has called for extra security at mosques in the wake of the attack.

The group's general secretary, Harun Khan, said: "During the night, ordinary British citizens were set upon while they were going about their lives, completing their night worship."
