Finn Russell to play just days after shock axing from Scotland squad following late-night drinking session

Scotland fly-half Finn Russell will start for club side Racing 92 this weekend as they travel to face Castres in the Top14.

It has been alleged that the mercurial playmaker was told he would not be playing in the Scots' opening Six Nations game against Ireland after a late-night drinking session earlier this week, the day after which he failed to turn up for training.

It's been widely reported that Russell was given the opportunity to stay in camp to help the team prepare for the match, but he decided to return to Paris.

In the meantime, Scotland have called up Worcester's Duncan Weir to replace Russell in the squad ahead of their training camp in Portugal next week.

It's worth noting that, even if Russell had remained in Scotland camp earlier this week, he would always have been available for Racing this week under World Rugby's availability regulations.
