Finland Women Euro 2025 squad: Marko Saloranta's full team

Finland Women Euro 2025 squad: Ria Oling of Finland poses for a portrait during the Official UEFA Women's EURO 2025 Portrait Session on June 24, 2025 in Wolvega, Netherlands.

The Finland Women Euro 2025 squad has been confirmed for this summer and they will be targeting a marked improvement from the last European Championships.

As one of the smaller Euro 2025 squads, there's a better shot this time than last. In 2022, they were drawn in a tricky group with Germany, Spain and Denmark and lost all three matches to crash out.

This time around the draw was kinder to them but their group will still be difficult to navigate. They will have to get past Iceland, Norway and Switzerland to reach the knockout stages.

In the dugout, Marko Saloranta worked his way through the system. After managing multiple women’s domestic sides, he assisted the senior team in 2009, then coached the youth teams and stepped up after several terms as interim head coach. This will be his first major tournament.

On the pitch, Finland have a few players at big clubs in big leagues, but Crystal Palace’s Ria Oling ticks all of the ‘key player’ boxes. She provides a goal threat from midfield and offers the squad plenty of experience, having been a consistent performer for her nation over many years.

Finland have been a recent Euros mainstay of sorts, without ever matching the heights of reaching a semi-final on debut in 2005. The Boreal Owls are hoping to avoid a repeat of their last two campaigns – winless in 2013 and then 2022, either side of a failure to qualify.

In a reasonably gentle group, there’s every chance that barren run could come to an end.

LESSON FROM QUALIFYING

A good defence can take you far. Finland qualified by keeping a pair of clean sheets in their pivotal two-legged play-off with Scotland, as part of a run between October and April in which they conceded just once. That can only help them if they’re to get out of this group.

STRENGTHS

Goalkeepers. With Anna Koivunen and Anna Tamminen starting to compete with 39-year-old captain Tinja-Riikka Korpela, Finland have three top-quality options. Marko Saloranta has tried them all lately, and all with some success, so it’ll be intriguing to see if Korpela keeps hold of the No.1 shirt.

WEAKNESSES

Goals. Linda Sallstrom will turn 37 midway through this tournament and Leicester City’s Jutta Rantala has endured an injury-hit season, so the question is where the goals will come from in a group of fine margins. Drawing 0-0 with Belarus recently was a concern, especially for fans who remember Finland’s only goal at Euro 2022 coming in the first minute of their campaign, before they lost all three games.

MOST LIKELY TO…

Play heavy metal in the changing room. As a nation, the Finns love it.

LEAST LIKELY TO…

Take themselves too seriously.

WHAT THEY HOPE WILL HAPPEN

A win, at the very least. Iceland look very beatable, Norway have turned into perennial strugglers and the Swiss must shoulder the expectation of home advantage.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN

A similar story to last time: some plucky performances, but probably ending with a group-stage exit.

Finland manager: Marko Saloranta

Boss Marko Saloranta has been involved in Finland women's set-up since 2009. His role has taken many shapes as he has been in charge on the youth teams and been the assistant to the senior side. He was appointed manager of the team in 2023.

In his reign he secured Euro 2025 qualification, overcoming an incredibly talented Scotland team in their play-off match.

His dedication to the set-up is unlike any other coach in the competition. The players know him well and the cohesion could help them on the pitch.

Finland's star player

Emma Koivisto

Emma Koivisto not only brings versatility as she can play as a defender or midfielder but she brings a wealth of experience from various different leagues.

She has played in England's Women's Super League, Sweden's Damallsvenskan and is currently competing in Italy's Serie A.

Koivisto made her debut for Finland in 2012 and has amassed over 100 caps for her country. In that time she aided them to the Cyprus Cup in 2023.
