Finglas mum has lucky escape after firework thrown through door while kids are home

A Finglas woman had a lucky escape after a firework was thrown through her door causing a fire while her children were at home.

The shocking incident took place in the Ballygall area on Sunday evening when thugs threw the firework through the woman's porch door.

The terrified mum and her kids were left "shook up" by the sickening unprovoked attack and have been afraid to stay at home on their own.

Taking to a local Facebook group to warn her neighbours, she called for additional garda patrols of the area.

She said: "A firework rocket came through my porch door Sunday evening and set the contents in there on fire.

"Was like a bomb striking my home and if I hadn't been there my house would have burnt down. And children in the house too.

"Of course the police came 2 hours later and said nothing they could do.

"Why are they not patrolling the areas more at this time and taking these extremely dangerous things off them?"

Locals were quick to offer their support and said they were fed up with the ramping up of anti-social behaviour in the area as Halloween approaches.

One woman said: "It's getting a joke they stand on the main roads throwing them at cars and under cars.

"They will cause an accident and no one is stopping it."

Another added: "We all love Halloween and fireworks. But this is out of hand. 2am and it's like a warzone, kid's been woken up most nights or can't get to sleep. The sound moves the windows."

The victim of the attack thanked her neighbours for their concern as well as local councillor Noeleen Reilly who confirmed she had requested additional garda patrols in the area.

But she added her family were still very "shook up" after the incident.

"My ex slept in the house in the front room so the kids could feel safe," she said.

"My only hope is that it was not deliberately done as we don't even know any of the youths around the area."
