Finglas land to be rezoned for over 2,000 homes after plan passes by just one vote

Dublin City Council has voted in favour of rezoning a plot of land in Finglas so that over 2,000 homes can be built on it.

The 43 hectares of land in Finglas will now be rezoned for residential and mixed-use.

As many as 2,200 homes along with a mixture of retail and offices are set to be included in the development.

The locations of the new development are McKee Avenue, Jamestown Road and St Margaret's Road.

The vote to rezone was passed at a DCC meeting last night by 43 votes in favour to 17 against - It needed a minimum of 42 votes to pass.

Those who supported the motion believe it will "revitalise" Finglas village and the surrounding area, while those against said it's been rushed through without proper consideration.

Other worries were that it's still unknown if these homes will be affordable for the local community.

An estimated 50% of the project will be residential, 30% business, 10% open space and the building of a local school.

The motion to rezone was supported by councillors from Sinn Fein, Fine Gael and Labour.

The successful rezoning now means that the development will be part of The Strategic Housing Development Process which allows for fast-track development.
