Finglas fundraiser raises thousands for family of stab victim and mum-of-two Jennie Poole

A fundraiser in aid of the family of a Finglas mum who was stabbed to death in her own home yesterday has raised thousands in a matter of hours.

Jennie Poole was attacked at her apartment in Melville Drive, Finglas, north Dublin, at around 2pm yesterday while her young son was at home.

The 24-year-old mum of a daughter, 8, and son, 4, was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on her arrival.

Now a GoFundMe created to help her family with funeral arrangements has raised over €10,000 in two hours.

It says: "On 17 April Jennie was tragically and suddenly taken from the world. Leaving behind her Mam, Dad, brothers, sister, family and her two precious babies.

"Jennie was a fun, loving, happy & hard working 24 year old mother who lived for her babies. We are fundraising for the sudden cost of her funeral and anything extra will go to supporting her babies.

"The news of the tragic passing of Jennie was a major shock to our community and we hope everyone can pull together to show the support & how much she was loved and try ease this burden on the family.

"Any donation big or small will go a long way and Jennie's family will be extremely grateful."

A man, believed to be known to the victim, was in the apartment and jumped from the balcony but was apprehended a short time later.

Gardai confirmed they have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the attack and he is being held at Finglas Garda Station.

It is not known who raised the alarm but neighbours may have heard a disturbance coming from the victim’s home.

The Garda are appealing in particular to anyone who was in the Melville Drive area of Finglas yesterday, between 1.30pm and 2.30pm, to come forward.
