Fingal Poetry Festival returning with jam packed weekend for all ages

Fingal Poetry Festival is returning in 2022 for its third edition, taking place from September 15 to 18.

The festival will be launched on Thursday, September 1 at 8.30pm with the Illumination of Floraville, a park in the centre of Skerries beside the library. The weekend promises to have something for everyone including an aerial dance spectacle, poetry walks through the High Woods of Ardgillan Castle, lunchtime poetry readings, live music evenings, and an especially commissioned film poem by Pat Boran.

Other events taking place as part of Fingal Poetry Festival includes a family poetry fest, virtual workshops, ISL interpreted events, bilingual poetry readings and an open mic night. Artistic Director of the festival Enda Coyle-Greene said: "“At our previous live events, I’ve loved the reactions of our audiences, especially perhaps those people who mightn’t normally have considered poetry to be 'their thing'.

"Our programme this year features a broad range of poets from Ireland and elsewhere, including Leontia Flynn, Michael O’Loughlin, Aifric Mac Aodha, Kate Miller, Dermot Bolger, and many more, so there should be a reading to suit everyone.” Fingal locals can also expect to find poetry in unexpected places during the festival weekend, such as on pavements and in shop windows.

Fingal Poetry Festival is supported by the Arts Council Ireland, Foras na Gaeilge, Fingal County Council, Fingal Libraries, Leabhair Pháistí Éireann, Laureate na nÓg, Poetry Ireland, and RTÉ Supporting the Arts.

A number of the events taking place as part of the Fingal Poetry Festival are free, and others have special rates for low income or unwaged people.

The full festival programme can be viewed on the event's website.
