Fingal County Council open public consultation on completion of long awaited Royal Canal greenway

A public consultation has been opened for the much-delayed section of the royal canal greenway that runs through Castleknock and Blanchardstown, and further afield.

The Royal Canal section that runs through Blanchardstown, Castleknock and Clonsilla, is seen as the most difficult to change given some local opposition as well as the 'deep sinking'.

Speaking on the opening of the consultation, a spokesperson for Fingal County Council said: "The proposed Urban Greenway will encourage recreation while offering an attractive alternative transport choice for school children and commuters, bringing significant environmental, economic and health benefits to the wider community.

"Conscious of the special place that the Royal Canal holds within the community, and its designation as a protected structure, the Urban Greenway aims to protect and enhance the existing environment along the corridor.

When every section of the greenway is completed, it will connect Dublin city to Galway. A six-week online public consultation will take place from May 25 - July 7.

Two information webinars are also planned for June 1 and June 8 and you can book your spot at www.fingal.ie/royalcanalurbangreenway.
